About the Authors:
The authors Edward T. Tsirigotis, Barbara Vitale and Lou Rosati, have over 80 years of combined experience teaching physical education.
Edward T. Tsirigotis has taught Physical Education and Health at all grade levels for over 29
years. He attended Tampa University and Cortland S.U.N.Y. where he received a BS in Physical Education and got
his Masters at C.W. Post. He also has an Administrative Degree from Hofstra University.
Mr.Tsirigotis has six years of military service as a second lieutenant in the National Guard.
Edward has extensive coaching experience in several sports in both high school and college.
Six of his former college football students have succeeded in the National Football League.
He has had considerable experience in curriculum writing in physical education and has
presented several interdisciplinary programs for the New York State Athletic Association of
Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. Currently, Edward is teaching physical
education on Long Island, NY and is instructing inservice courses on time management and
lesson planning for elementary physical education.
Barbara Vitale has a BS in Physical Education form State University of New York at Cortland
and has done graduate work in Health and Physical Education at Queens College and
Adelphi University on Long Island. Barbara has 33 years of teaching experience in Physical education at the elementary level. She has worked under all conditions from state of the art
gyms to bandrooms and auditoriums used as make-shift gyms, which she attributes to her
creativity. "I had to be very creative to have a good program under those conditions." She
initiated a kindergarten and first grade physical education program with minimal equipment
and integrated it with classroom curriculum, long before interdisciplinary was a common
Barbara has now retired from the school system but continues working in the physical
education field as a personal trainer and specializes in water aerobics and water therapy.
Lou Rosati has a BS Degree in Physical Education and a Masters Degree in Adapted
Physical Education from the State University of New York at Cortland and continues to take
Professional Development courses through Syracuse University. Lou has 19 years of
teaching Physical Education at the High School, Middle School, and Elementary School
level. He has coached a variety of successful men\'s and women\'s athletic teams, officiated
wrestling and womens lacrosse, supervised intramural programs, coordinated an after
school leadership program, and worked in the private sector for over 12 years. For the last 14
